Trout lily, March 31

There aren't that many yellow flowers in early spring, not until the buttercups are out, and I find I'm always a little surprised by the trout lilies. Something with those subdued red-and-green mottled leaves (stipple upon trout that swim), I don't expect it to have such bold, bright flowers. But there they are!!
