August 6: Crickets

I'm at the farm. It's been a month; I missed the main part of the corn and tomato crops, alas. The sunflowers have gone. Otherwise, it's still lush and quiet with the sounds of man... noisy with nature. But here, with only the occasional car driving by and no highway within earshot, I can hear the crickets. And over the expanse of the front yard and the pasture, I can see a hundred fireflies blinking gently in the dark.
