October 24: Out of season
The weather has continued to be short-sleeves-and-sandals weather. Not hot enough to complain about, but none of the crisp coolness we start to long for this time of year. Yesterday when I was out walking in late evening, I wasn't conscious of being too warm, but when I walked by a garden bed where some misting sprinklers were watering the azaleas and hostas, the coolness in the air around the spray was surprising and delicious.
There was a chance of rain forecast, but that's happened so many times this summer and fall and no rain came, so I wasn't optimistic at all. But around midnight, lo and behold, through my open window I heard drops hitting the balcony. I was glad to be wrong! And it turned out to be a decent amount of rain.
This evening, we had a little tornado. It wasn't surprising, given the unseasonable warmth and high humidity. I had even had a poor night's sleep and felt groggy and sick during the day, which are often signs to me that the air pressure is dropping. My body knows tornado weather, even if my conscious brain is clueless. So although it's very uncommon in October, I wasn't surprised when the tornado sirens started going off. We had the dark clouds and green sky and lightning, the wind kicking through the trees and blowing leaves and twigs around, but no damage on my street. A few trees down and an overturned vehicle, so really not a bad tornado at all.
