June 5: Things flying at dusk

Medium-sized, light brown bats are flying over my balcony, around and around, crazily swooping down and over toward the road and back again. They come so close sometimes, I can see the silhouette of their ears. Bats are good. When they're present, I feel like the ecosystem must have some measure of health.

From my place in the dark on the sofa, I can also see fireflies blinking around my potted plants, and a few minutes ago I saw the silhouette of a large dragonfly against the dark grey sky.
