April 19: Funny names
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:41 pmAlthough the pastures look like they're covered in nothing but buttercups, with maybe the occasional dark green clump of jonquils, they're really bursting with all varieties of little flowers. One type has the tiniest white blossoms that cluster in a square or rectangle pattern. I'd never bothered to look up the name before, but I did this weekend and learned that they're called "corn salad"!

Another is a flower that grows on tall, slender, tough stems and blooms right at the top, with a few almost bell-shaped blossoms that have broad bottom petals. They're very light blue, toadflax. Another name I like a lot.
