neverspent: vintage art of ferns (Default)
Last year, I planted a couple of pots of wildflower seeds, just to see what would happen. The results were: really not much. But this spring, things that probably weren't unwanted weeds started coming up in those pots, so I left them alone. What I got was some very familiar looking foliage and a couple of tall stalks containing flower buds that looked awfully familiar. I just couldn't place it. Of course I felt silly when I finally got out among the roadside wildflowers and took a couple of pictures of coreopsis, and realized. I'm so familiar with lance-leaved coreopsis! Oh well, I won't miss it next year.

The coreopsis in my wildflower pot is a bit too big for its moorings, and extra heavy since it's a double-flower. So not really "wild," but pretty!
