I've always thought you weren't supposed to let coleus go to blossom, you pinch them instead because the beautiful leaves will stop growing so well when the plant is putting its energy into reproduction. But I raised some coleus from seed in a couple of my large flower pots this summer, and I have let them blossom. The flower spikes are really quite pretty. The blossoms are light purple and look a little like if you let sage go to flower. Today, I was even more glad I'd let the flowers go, because there was a honeybee visiting them. I don't see as many honeybees in September because there just aren't as many flowers they like. Maybe I'll grow more coleus next year.
