December 16: Mallards

I'm at the farm now, and this morning I hiked down to the pond just to have a look see.



I've seen ducks down there a couple of times, but never wild mallards! The drakes are so bright. Like jewels on the water.

They are so charismatic! I see unusual varieties at the zoo a lot, but I don't often get to see truly wild ones, at least not up close. :)
