Amphibians in February

Tonight we have thunderstorms and a toad appeared on the porch. Then I noticed that a few pitches above the rain and thunder, away down in the woods, frogs were singing. Not even spring peepers, but regular tree frogs, like April. It would all be rather friendly and comforting if it weren't still early February, in a year that winter never came.

I also heard a BUNCH of frogs croaking around here tonight and last, but I never see any. And it's cold here! Not freezing right now, but you would think the frogs wouldn't sound so happy.

You wouldn't, would you? I guess they're ready to be freeeeeee! Or they're hungry. Or feeling sexy...

Yeah, it's acting like spring around here too. It has been sixty or nearly the past three days, and the daffodils are coming up, and the air smells like spring.

I'm hoping for a last good cold snap to keep the bugs down this summer, but it better be soon, or it will kill the peaches.

That's always our worry here in spring, too. It will get warm fairly early, and then we have a late cold snap that burns the blossoms. The past few years have been consistently great for the peaches, which is nice, but the other effects aren't as nice. The bus are one, like you say!
