A milestone for the summer, we had our first 100 degree day on June 27, but a few days later we had a delicious cold front that brought humidity and temperatures down into the 80s. It's been a lovely reprieve!
In my dad's garden, blackberries and blueberries are ripening, green beans are about past their first productive period (they may or may not have another after the worst heat of summer) and the sunflowers, as usual, are reaching to the sky.

This one is 10-12 feet tall.
In my balcony garden, I've been enjoying a handful of greens every day, but the chard is starting to toughen in the heat and the Russian kale, which was tender and oh so delicious, has been eaten into fine lace by what I assume were some very sneaky and specialized caterpillars. The coreopsis, which I planted three years ago, have been blooming for weeks, and all the varieties of basil have put on blooms as well. My surprise tomato plants (surprise because they came up volunteer in the worm compost I used for starting my greens) grew beautifully, blossomed and put on some green fruits, but now they're suffering from wilt, in which the lower branches turn yellow and fall off, and it moves up the main stem that way.
