June 23: Potted sunflower

It's so hot now that I have to water my balcony garden every day, up to six gallons -- six trips in to the kitchen sink with my plastic watering can and back out to the thirsty plants. I've been taking special care of a single sunflower in a cheap plastic pot. I'll describe this sunflower's life in more detail later, but I'm very fond of it and I've been watching its progress carefully. Today I noticed the very beginnings of petals. It made me happy.


This is a different baby sunflower.

that is SO cool looking. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it grows up!

Sunflowers are so fascinating! My balcony sunflower has survived longer than I expected, so I hope I can keep it through the blossoming!
