June 26: Plantations at midsummer
Jun. 26th, 2010 11:54 pmTook another day trip to the flat agricultural part of the state again today. The rice in the fields is taller and greener than two weeks ago, and broad spouts are pouring water into the gullies to flood the fields. The corn has started to tassel. When you can see the whole field from a higher elevation, you can see the tassels appearing and spreading in soft patches across the dark green of the cornstalk leaves.

Lots of redwing blackbirds. Those of us from hill country don't care for the flatlands, generally, but now that I'm older I can see the bits of beauty there. Like those birds, and how you can see the whole sky.
