June 13: Wind tremor
Jun. 13th, 2010 09:24 pmSometimes when there's a breeze moving through a leafy tree, it will catch one leaf and lift it up. Why only one, I don't know, maybe that leaf was at the perfect angle. It gets lifted up and starts waving. One leaf among hundreds, moving rhythmically back and forth while the others just sway every once in awhile, when the breeze is strong enough. I watched a leaf of a black cherry sapling go at it one afternoon last week, and tonight a maple leaf waved at me for awhile.
Though it's fast and involuntary... it's not so much "waving" as it is a tremor, that shaking leaf. Sometimes it reminds me of the last time I saw my grandmother, how she couldn't hold her things in her hand because it shook.
But it could be a dance.
