September: Coleoptera
Sep. 1st, 2010 07:44 pmHello, September! You are most welcome, please make yourself at home.
I often wake up with strange words or names running through my head—verbal earworms like other people get musical ones, I suppose. This week it's been insect orders: coleoptera, lepidoptera, hymenoptera, odonata, megaloptera, meganeura. (I realize it would be more consistent to be thinking "protodonata" rather than that last one, but these are the words unbidden in my head.) Today I was pleased to meet a cute little member of coleoptera on a basil leaf, and give some form to a bit of my list.
