neverspent: art of dragonfly (dragonfly)

This morning there was a luna moth resting on the wall of one of the buildings in my apartment complex. When I was young, we had a bug zapper by the back door, and we used to get a gorgeous variety of moths clinging to our door screens. The lunas were my favorites—along with a pink and yellow variety called the rosy maple moth which forever after has been the first thing I think of whenever I see that color combination in anything.

This fellow or lady had a cute curly tail and such velvety wings and body.

Velvety luna

In the evening when I was out walking, I came across the remains of a small butterfly, probably a skipper. Its wings were mostly a bright yellow-orange color. When I stooped and picked it up to gently peel apart the wings, I could see that the top side had a brown border. It might have been a Delaware skipper, but I can't find any photos that show the bright yellow color I saw. It reminded me strongly of lance-leaved coreopsis, or (with the brown) black-eyed susans.

What a lovely photo. I have a friend on here who takes nature close-ups like that. They always amaze me. :)

I made him a feed journal here on DW so anyone might look at his photos. It's from his Flickr. Oh! look at your userpic! That's cute. :)

He lives in England. I'm going to show him your photo.
