September 27: Festival of fall flowers
Sep. 27th, 2010 11:40 pmI mentioned before that the fall flowers are out in force! The colors are mostly blue-purple and gold. There are the long-leaved sunflowers, the latest-blooming dark-centered sunflower type around, and the tickseed sunflowers, which aren't really helianthus at all but fill the roadsides like they're going out of business. (I've even found deep red cardinal flowers mixed in.) There's the goldenrod too, though it hasn't really got going strong yet.

Then there are the pretty little asters and the showy blazing star, which is also memorably called gayfeather.
