September 29: Lilac success

Happy news: the lilac bush I bought for my mom for Mother's Day, the little bush I planted so lovingly in May and showered with hopes and mulch and water... has bloomed! The climate here is on the hot side for lilacs, and lilacs are my mom's favorite scent, so I was afraid it wouldn't bloom. But now we know it will. Sigh of relief.

It does smell nice! I was a little surprised, because the bunch of blossoms is so small, but it was distinctly lilac-y. Lovely!

I think flowers need to smell nice. I was so disappointed to discover why babies breath flowers earned their name. *holds nose* eww

Hee. It can be disappointing! It's a good thing ornamental pear trees are so gorgeous when they bloom, because they stink to high heaven. I'm guessing most people just don't roll down their windows around them.
