October 18: Black wasp

At the state park yesterday, outside the visitors' center I found a garden full of native wildflowers, which to my satisfaction were all carefully labeled. When I was there, the garden had just been watered. The tall sunflowers and weeks and asters were all drooping from the weight of water drops clinging to them. Around the water, the air was cool, and I noticed a lot of bumblebees that seemed to be sleeping on the flowers. Sluggish, perhaps, because of the temperature and water. There was also a particularly gorgeous lady, a black, narrow-waisted wasp resting on a stalk of asters.
