December 29: Frost and steady rain
Dec. 29th, 2010 09:59 amTwo mornings ago it was clear and cold. The horses' breath smoked when they ate their grain, and the sun stretched out across the fields made the frost on the short grass sparkle.

This morning it is warmer and it has been raining steadily for eight hours. The backyard is flooded and I'm sure the lower pasture is too, not to mention the creeks. It's inconvenient -- warm enough not to snow, but cold enough to be quite unpleasant -- but as my dad pointed out, it will fill the stock ponds. This area is still officially under drought conditions, 15 inches behind in rain totals for the year, so a day of steady rain is just what we need in the larger scheme of things.
