May 3: Mississippi kites

The Mississippi kites are back. I was sitting out on my balcony in the evening and they were wheeling in the air above the woods across the road. They're larger than the other evening sky-hunting birds, their wings are longer and have a very crisp profile. I like them a lot. Usually they're so far away and it's almost dark and they're just silhouettes, but tonight one flew so close over me that I could see the white under its head and breast.
